ALMA Consulting Ltd created a link between ALMA and SAP to import design information from ALMA to SAP-business software.
Initial problem setting:
A client of ALMA Consulting Ltd uses ALMA for electrical design but uses SAP for maintenance. To successfully carry out maintenance tasks, SAP needs electrical positions from ALMA. It is possible to update the positions into SAP manually but this might render information between ALMA and SAP non-concurrent or conflicting. Essentially this would mean that a designer would need to update information in two places.
Solution:
ALMA performs a routine information transfer to SAP once each day. Information is stored in a file from which it is imported into SAP using an external application. Transferable positions will be labeled accordingly.
Benefits:
Information in SAP is up-to-datedesigns made with ALMA can now also be found from SAP. Information does not lie stagnant in SAP and information between ALMA and SAP does not conflict. By removing the need to record the same information manually in two systems reduces design workload.
