Project Engineer Kari Hämäläinen from CTS Engtec Oy participated ALMA basic course in May-June time.

Kari Hämäläinen has studied from electrician to technician and has a degree in Automation Engineering. He started design work at CTS Engtec Oy in the mid-eighties and in 2001 moved on to other assignments. Currently Hämäläinen works at CTS Engtec as a Project Engineer.

Due to good network connections, Hämäläinen is able to work from home in Kuopio, even when the company’s head office is located in Kouvola. Hämäläinen does not hold any previous ALMA experience but he has been part of designing and executing knowledge management systems and also worked as a trainer.

Kari Hämäläinen participated at ALMA basic course because he believes course will give in-depth information. "The course explains ALMA’s features, possibilities and limitations’", he says and adds, "Learning things the hard way is expensive for a company. After the course it is easier to get going ."

First day of the course concentrated on the basics of ALMA and the second day gave a deeper look at ALMA. Kari Hämäläinen plans to make use of the learned ALMA skills at his work. "ALMA can be used in many different ways, ‘heavy’ or ‘light’. CTS is an engineering office and we have to be able to respond to our customer needs, to find the golden mean. Our use of ALMA can differ from our clients, therefore the way ALMA is applied will depend on the extensiveness of the project and the level of final documentation."

Kari Hämäläinen hopes to be able to adapt ALMA and to avoid having same formula used time and time again. "Aim is to be project-specific and cost effective. It is also important to do right things at the right time." Hämäläinen adds in the end.
