16.5.2011 | Efora chose ALMA

Hand over of Efora: Information on paper machines in Oulu has been transferred from Intecro to ALMA. Also, information from old ALMA database located at Kemi was imported to the new system in Oulu. Personnel has been trained in using ALMA both in Oulu and in Kemi.

Problem to solve?
Efora has been using electrical design system Intecro but as of late support for it has been discontinued. ”User support for the system we used at the paper factory was no longer available and the system was not being further developed”, project chief Kari Korkiakoski from Efora tells us.

Why did you choose ALMA?
”We had previously used ALMA at the pulp factory. So we already knew what it is and how it works”, Korkiakoski explains.

Solution?
Information from Oulu and Kemi now reside in the same server. It is possible to do work from Oulu to Kemi and vice versa. Thanks to remote possibilities offered by ALMA, the work of the designer is no longer restricted to on-site–the designer can work from a location most suitable for her.

What benefits does the updated and unificated ALMA system offer for Efora?
”The new ALMA-system is better and more efficient. Using it, you can output more information using reports,” Korkiakoski lists the benefits and continues: ”Copying eases the creation of new projects and designing is more efficient.”

Do you intend to extend the use of ALMA?
”The paper factory has now been entirely imported into ALMA and also some departments from the pulp factory has been imported. The pulp factory and power plant will be transferred into ALMA as we renew our automation systems because future projects will be done with ALMA. Within ten years time, everything has been transferred into ALMA,” says Korkiakoski. To note, ALMA is also being used in Varkaus.

Greetings
The project has progressed well. ”Due to our tight schedules the project has delayed by some, because we couldn't work on it as much as we originally planned to. We have a lot of other design work as well,” Korkiakoski explains and continues: ”Once we get report trainings out of the way, then everything will be ok.”
